The Story

The "Kapellmeister" of the famous "Monkey Chapel" is one of the total of 21 hand-painted collectible figures by Johann Joachim Kaendler from 1753. The monkey as a very popular motif at the time was also the motif of his choice to ironically depict courtly society with his handicraft. The figure "Kapellmeister" with the pompous wig and energetic attitude is, like the other 20 collectible figures, sculpted by hand as well as hand-painted. Each monkey of the charming monkey orchestra is thus unique and testifies to over 310 years of experience in traditional craftsmanship of the oldest porcelain manufactory in Europe. In addition, each figurine is a reminder of the unique artistry of the great Kaendler, MEISSEN's first model master.
